Paper Pumpkin (Jan 2021)

Hi fellow crafters and friends!  I have a bit of a different blog post today.  I want to share Paper Pumpkin with you!  Not sure what that is, read on.  Already know?  Awesome!

So, just real quick for those that don't know, Paper Pumpkin is a monthly subscription put out by Stampin' Up! that is an all inclusive project kit.  Usually, it teds to be cards, but there are other projects as well.  Each month you can see a sneak peak and decide it you want it or not.  Being all inclusive, it will have everything you need to make the project inside.

Each month, I plan to do a video showing how to put together the project.  I will also plan to do a video or picture post here of some alternatives that can be made with the kit.  Paper Pumpkin is a great kit for anyone-- beginner and avid crafter alike!

So, here you can view my video of the January kit, Sending Hearts

Here are pictures of the cards made that follow the kits directions and then pictures showing my alternatives.  Keep in mind, my alternatives were made specifically with the kit.  I wanted to be able to show that you don't need to follow the directions but more importantly, that you don't need much, if anything, that is not already in the kit to make alternative items!

Photo shows both designs as directed.

Well that's it for today! Check back next week for another card or project! As always, I'd love to be your demonstrator. Contact me for more info or check out my onlne store!

Darling Donkey's Birthday Card

Hi!  Thanks for coming by and checking out my latest card.  Today' card is simple and fairly quick.  I wanted to add some cards to my stash quickly and this is what came to my mind!

How To:

Make your card base using whisper white (or the new basic white).  Add a piece of DSP to your card base.  I used a piece of the new True Love DSP.  Using a panel of whisper white that would fit the front of the card base (see dimensions section), cut out a "snow bank" or curvy piece.  I used the Home Together dies, but they are retired.  I would have used the Curvy Keepsake Dies but do not yet have those.  You could even cut your shape by hand or just have a rectangle.

Using the Darling Donkey's stamp set, I stamped the donkey that is kicking up it's heels on the right side, in the dip of the panel.  I added the little stars up behind his heels, to represent the action of kicking or clicking his heels.  I then stamped the sentiments, HeeHaw! and It's your birthday! on the right hand side.  I used Memento Black for all of my stamping.

Color your donkey or leave him as is.  I used the Smokey Slate Stampin' Blends (dark and light) along with the color lifter.  Nothing fancy here!  You can certainly get fancy with your shading/coloring if you like, but again, I wanted something quick and simple.

I then chose a color to use for sponging around the panel with the donkey.  You can use any color you choose here, in the photo below I used Calypso Coral.  I just wanted a tiny bit of color.  Sponging is easy... take a sponge and get some ink on it from your ink pad.  Hold the paper you want the color on and brush the sponge along the sides of the paper.  Need more direction or to see it done?  Watch my video here.

Dimensions:

* Basic White cut at 8.5" x 5.5", folded to be 4.25" x 5.5"

* Piece of DSP cut at 5.5" x 2.5" (the 2.5" can be more if you want you DSP piece to be larger than you white piece)

* Basic white cut at 5.5" x 4.25" for the making of the curvy panel.

True Love DSP meets Gorgeous Posies

Hello everyone!  Today I want to share a card with you that I think you will love.  I love black and white DSP so when I saw the new True Love DSP in the Jan-June mini catalog, I knew I had to have it!

As I was sitting at my crafting table yesterday I thought of several things I wanted to do with the True Love DSP.  I got to work.  But after 4 different cards, I was frustrated.  Nothing was coming out as I saw in my head.  Finally I decided to not go with what was in my head-- just see what happened instead.  I ended up really liking the finished product, which I am considering a fun fold!

How To:

Cut a piece of whisper white to be the size of a card base, not folded.  So, just 5.5" x 4.25".  This panel will be your "base".  Cut a piece of DSP the same size and adhere to the white panel.  Set aside.  Cut your basic black according to the dimensions below and fold in half.  Cut your inside whisper white panel and your outside whisper white piece.  You also need a scrap of basic back.

On the whisper white panel that will go on the inside, stamp the large flower form the Gorgeous Posies stamp set in Highland Heather.  Add the inside of the flower (dots) using memento black.  Set this aside.  On the small white panel for the outside, stamp the same flower in opposing corners using the same technique as the inside panel.  Now stamp the leaves in Old Olive and the veins to the leaves, also in Old Olive.  Fill in a bit of the white by stamping some more of the flower (but without the inside dots).

Using the scrap of black, stamp your sentiment in Versamark.  I chose to use Happy Birthday! from the new stamp set ______ found in the Sale-A-Bration catalog.  Emboss this with White Embossing powder.  Trim this piece so that it will fit over the white stamped panel for the front and punch the ends using the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.  Cut a piece of the glittered organdy ribbon to make a zigzag behind the sentiment.  Adhere this piece to the white stamped panel with dimensionals.

Adhere the black folded piece to the center of the "base" that you made with DSP.  Adhere the inside panel to the inside of the black folded piece and adhere the small white stamped panel to the front the black panel.   Your card is complete!

These directions may seem a bit all over the place, so if you would like, you can watch a video here.

Dimensions:

  • Whisper white: 5.5" x 4.25"
  • Basic Black: 3.25" x 8.5"
  • DSP: 5.5" x 4.25"
  • Whisper white: 3" x 3.25"   and 3" x 5.25"
  • Scrap of basic black (should measure around 1" x 4")

Catalog CASE - Whiskey Business

I've decided to try something new. New to me, anyway. I am going to case something from one of the catalogs at least once a month. I may do it more often, but we'll start with this. :)

So todays card comes from the 2020/2021 Annual Card Catalog (AC), page 33. I did a video that you can see HERE if you like.

.

How To:

Using Basic Gray, make your card base then set aside. Cut a piece of DSP (I used a retired sheet) and a piece of Whisper White (following the dimensions given below). Using the Whiskey Business stamp set, stamp the bottle image onto the white panel. I stamped towards the left and left some space underneath for "grounding." Stamp two glasses on a scrap of Whisper White.  I used Basic Gray to do my stamping.  Stamp your sentiment on scrap Whisper White as well. Color your images as you see fit. I used the following watercolor pencils: pacific blue, daffodil delight, pumpkin pie, and then basic gray for the "grounding" under the bottle. I also used a blender pen to lightly blend the colors together. You can use any medium you choose. Next, fussy cut out your glasses and set aside. Die cut your backing piece for the sentiment in Night of Navy, and use your Lovely Labels Pick A Punch to punch out the ends of your sentiment. Adhere the sentiment to the Night of Navy die cut. Adhere your DSP in a slanted fashion onto your card base. Adhere your stamped panel onto the DSP, lined straight with card base. (I also rounded adjacent corners of panel.) Adhere glasses to panel, one on each side of bottle. (See image.) One with adhesive and one with dimensionals. using some matching ribbon or thread, make some loops behind the sentiment, then adhere sentiment with dimensionals. Stamp an insert panel if you choose.

Dimensions:

- Basic Gray 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4

- DSP of choice cut at 5" x 3 3/4"

- Whisper White cut at 3 1/8 x 4 5/8"

- Scraps of Whisper White and Night of Navy
